You Want to Work From Home: The Pros and Cons of Online Jobs.
As with any job, there are pros and cons to working online jobs. For many, the pros may outweigh the cons, but some of the cons may be too much for some to handle. Knowing both sides of the case for working from home will help you make an informed decision on your future and learn the pros and cons of working from home.

If you employ yourself you’ll never be out of work. That’s just one of the many reasons...
Pro: Staying at Home
If you are a certain type of person, such as a stay-at home parent, a disabled individual, unemployed in a bad economy or full time student, working from home could be the perfect solution to getting more income.
You generally will not need to leave the house, you can stay home with your children and still be able to run the household. This is a huge pro to many individuals.
Con: No Health Insurance
If you are single or not on anyone else’s insurance policy, you need to be aware that online jobs will not offer health insurance in almost all cases. Though it is possible to purchase your own insurance, it can be very expensive. On average, it is about $300 - $400 per month for a basic individual policy.
If you think you don’t need it or are already on another policy, this obviously would not be a con for your personal situation!
Pro: You Could Make a Lot of Money
Depending on the online job you are looking at, there are definitely jobs where you can make an excellent, even above average living. Examples of these jobs are artists, stock traders and freelance writers. These generally are full-time positions however, and you may need to work 50 or 60 hours a week or more, especially in the beginning to really get into these careers.
Con: Isolation and Inconsistent Pay
If you are a social person, working at home may not be the best choice. You will probably not get social interaction like you would get working in a busy office. You will often be spending several hours alone, sitting at a desk, in front of a computer screen. For most online jobs, no other people will be involved, though you may communicate with others via phone, e-mail or instant message.
Inconsistent pay can also be a con of working an online job. If you need a steady paycheck at all times, an online job is probably not for you. One week you can do very well for yourself, but the next two weeks could be horrible. It is often difficult at the beginning to make much of an income at all.
Is an Online Job For Me?
Really only you can answer the question as to if you should do online work or not. It will all depend on your individual situation. It can also come down to the individual job you are looking at and how much time you are willing to put into it.
If you can only work part time, you may not be able to make much of an impact to your income. If you have some talent in art, writing or a good business sense and able to work full time, it could be very beneficial to work at home and you may not have to ever step foot in an office again.
