What is Hypnotism and How Can I Hypnotize Myself At Home
Hypnotism is technically a higher sense of consciousness. It is no different than the consciousness you already know, such as waking consciousness and sleeping consciousness. In fact, many people go into states of hypnosis when they watch tv or read. You may notice this with young children who are watching cartoons. You can talk to them and they won’t even realize you are there. Adults do the same, however. You can even practice self hypnosis. As you can see, the question “What is hypnotism” really has a simple answer.
What is Hypnosis Exactly?
To get a bit more technical, hypnosis works by having the brain focus its usable power on one item or behavior. When you become hypnotized, you temporarily “lose” your rational thought process, and your brain will simply be focused in another direction. Though it spends much of its time in that “rational space”, when being hypnotized, it is alert and aware in another phase of consciousness, no different from the way it moves from your waking and sleeping consciousness.
How is it Used?
There are many ways to use hypnosis. Some of the more popular ways it is used is in stress relief, self-esteem boosting, controlling bad habits, improving sleep and even stopping pain. Hypnosis is becoming quite popular in many circles and many therapists and psychologists are learning how to hypnotize because their patients want it and it works!
How Does it Feel?
If you are a person who is reading this article, you have already been hypnotized, as we mentioned above, so you know it doesn’t hurt or doesn’t make you insane. It is simply a relaxing state of being. You should really feel great when you are in this state! There will be no sleeping or no confusion, both common misconceptions.
How Do I Do It At Home?
Though you can certainly be hypnotized by a professional, it is also very possible to hypnotize yourself at home. Everyone can be hypnotized, so forget that misconception. In order to hypnotize yourself, you will need to start by making hypnotic suggestions.
Hypnotic suggestions are phrases used to create change. For instance, if you are trying to quit smoking, a hypnotic suggestion may be “I am letting go of my tobacco habit”. When you use these phrases over and over, eventually this thought replaces the habit. If you keep it up, and allow yourself to get into that hypnotic state, you will surely see results.
Getting into the hypnotic state is also easy. For the simplest hypnotic session, simply find a nice, quiet area and get comfortable. Close your eyes and breathe deeply. You should try to relax your entire body. When in this relaxed state, you will say the intentions, or hypnotic suggestions you have chosen. You will likely want to have a few of them so you can change them up and have some variety. When writing these suggestions, always keep them in the first person and always keep them positive! You should also try visualizing while being in this state.
After doing this for approximately 10 minutes, you can allow yourself to slowly come out of your relaxed state. Remember, just because you are in a hypnotic state doesn’t mean you are unaware of who you are or what you are doing. Coming out of the state slowly will allow you to keep that relaxed feeling throughout the day.
This is the simplest way to hypnotize yourself but there are certainly many other ways that may have stronger results. It is important you find the method that is best for you in order to have success.
