Renting as a Beginner
If you are a beginner to the world of metal detecting, you probably won’t want to spend $100’s of dollars buying a metal detector up front. Lucky for you, many stores that sell metal detectors will rent them out. As a beginner, you will definitely want to see how you like this hobby and buy a detector only if you like it and plan to continue. Don’t spend the money to buy a metal detector if you don’t like it! Depending on where you rent, you can rent for a day, weekend or even for the month!
Sometimes people who first start the hobby don’t quite understand how to use a metal detector. Renting one is a great way to learn the ropes and learn the correct way to use the machine.
Renting Before Buying
Even if you are a seasoned metal detecting enthusiast, you may consider renting before you purchase a metal detector. For instance, if you love metal detecting and have your eye on a better or different model, renting that model before buying is a great way to “try before you buy” and make sure it is easy for you to use.
Think of it like taking a car on a test drive: you wouldn’t buy a car without driving it first, and you shouldn’t spend $100’s on a metal detector that you aren’t sure will meet your needs. Even as an established metal detector, you may need to practice with a new detector as each of them are made differently. You may also be interested in a certain brand. This is a great way to test that particular brand before buying.
Renting For Your Needs
Another reason you may want to rent a metal detector is to fulfill a particular need. As a metal detecting expert, you know that all metal detectors are not made equally. Ones that are great at detecting iron, can’t detect gold well. On the same note, one that detects gold, can’t always pick up iron.
For example, you may have a great metal detector that picks up iron or other similar metals well, but you are taking a trip to an area where you know you can find gold. What do you do? Rent one that can find gold, of course!
No matter what the reason, renting a metal detector can certainly have advantages that are helpful in this hobby. Don’t be afraid to try different machines. Only by trying several, can you find the best metal detector for you!
