Know What You Need

The first step to a successful self-hypnosis session is to know what you want to focus on. You will want to have a good idea on what you will be saying or if you are going to make a quick hypnosis tape, what you will be recording.

The most important aspect of writing your script or knowing what you are going to say is to always make it positive and to always focus on the present or future, never the past!

Relaxing

Once you know what you want to focus on and have a script or rough idea of what you will say to yourself, you need to get relaxed. Find an area of your home that is quiet and has no distractions. You should sit or lay on a chair in a comfortable position. It is recommended you sit in order to keep both feet on the floor, but if you like, you can certainly lay down, just do not fall asleep.

Begin the Process of Self –Hypnosis

You will generally begin to get yourself into a hypnotic state by deep breathing and visualization. Many professionals recommend visualizing yourself in an area that is calm for you, such as a beach, empty meadow or mountain side.

Once mentally in your place, you should be starting the process of stating your cues, or those things you want to focus on such as self-esteem or quitting smoking. If you are using a taped meditation script, you can use that to get to your “calm place” as well by describing the surroundings or even putting in soft sounds of birds chirping if you are mentally in an area where there are birds.

The Hypnotic State

By listening to your cues or even saying them out loud, you are getting your brain into a higher state of consciousness. This is higher than your waking consciousness and makes it easier for you to access your subconscious, which is where you want to be for this to work!

While in this hypnotic state, you will be listening to or saying out loud a series of cues such as “I am confident and people love spending time with me”, if you are focusing on self-esteem. The more you focus and say these things, the sooner it will become engrained into your subconscious and the sooner you will notice big, positive changes to your life!

Coming Out of Hypnosis

Once you have spent 10 – 25 minutes, on average in a hypnotic state, feel free to come out. Start by coming away from your “calm place” and becoming more aware of your surroundings in reality. Feel the floor under your feet, for instance. Come out of your hypnotic state slowly and really relish the calmness and comfort you are feeling. As you go about your day you will feel more relaxed, calm and energized after your self hypnosis session.

By using these methods you are re-training your mind and the more you do it, the more successful you will be in the self improvement you are seeking.
