Apples
You may have heard the saying “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”. Guess what? It’s true! Not only will eating an apple a day give you a good source of essential vitamins and minerals, it can also help to lower your cholesterol!
Apples are high in a chemical called pectin. Pectin is a soluble fiber that is perfect for keeping cholesterol down. In a scientific study, 30 people added 2 – 3 apples per day to their diet. After 30 days, the average person in the study lowered their cholesterol 14%!
Avocado
You may think avocados are not the best fruit for you as they contain a lot of fat. It’s true, they do have fat, but it is good fat that your body needs! This good, monosaturated fat can actually help your body lower cholesterol naturally!
In addition to those good fats, avocado also contains oleic acid, which is another natural cholesterol buster. With the avocado, you are getting a double dose of cholesterol lowering benefits in one tasty fruit!
Citrus Fruits
Citrus fruits like oranges, lemons and limes are also high in pectin like the apples are. Since you should be drinking water instead of sugary soft drinks, adding a slice of lemon or lime to your glass can give you some cholesterol lowering advantages you won’t necessarily get with plain water.
Oranges, you probably know, are loaded with vitamin C and are also low calorie and low fat.
Blueberries
You may only be familiar with blueberries in muffins or pancakes, but these fruits have huge cholesterol lowering benefits in a small, sweet package! Blueberries contain a chemical called pterostilbene that is extremely helpful in helping lower cholesterol naturally.
Blueberries can be eaten alone or added to cereal, fruit salad, yogurt or yes, even whole grain pancakes or muffins! You can still get the positive effects from this mighty fruit!
Grapes
Not only are grapes high in pectin, that you know helps lower cholesterol, they are very high in fiber and acids that help loosen the sticky cholesterol that can coat the inside of your arteries. This causes heart attacks. Grapes are also extremely high in vitamin C as well. Drinking 100% grape juice is just as helpful as eating the fruit and is also filled with antioxidants!
Though these are just a few of the many cholesterol lowering fruits, any fruit you eat will likely have healthy benefits to ensure a long and healthy life. Adding fruit to your diet can help you lose weight, lower your risk of cancer and diabetes and of course, lower your cholesterol.
